Lovat 5 Skye Camanachd 4. | |
05 July 2009 The Skye Camanachd second team went down 5-4 to Lovat in their Marine Harvest Division 2 clash at Balgate on Saturday 4 July 2009. Skye manager Davie MacVicar made 3 changes to side which lost at Kinlochshiel the previous week. He brought Iain Urquhart into the side at buckshee back and Neil John Campbell in at wing back. Martin Bruce moved to wing centre and Iain Grant started in the forward line. Paul MacKinnon missed out through injury whilst Iain Morrison, Robert Urquhart were unavailable. Skye ultimately lost this match in the opening 15 minutes when 2 goals each from Steven Cameron and Martin Anderson gave the home side the advantage over Danny Morrison’s solitary strike. Changes made to the defence by MacVicar; moving Iain Urquhart to full back, bringing Martin Bruce back to buckshee back, switching David Grant to wing back with Neil John Campbell pushing into the centre line seemed to settle the Islanders down and they fought their way back into the match with 2 goals from Kieron Roberts to make the score 4-3 in Lovat’s favour. However right on the stroke of half-time, referee Roddie MacLennan stopped play because of some jostling between Skye’s Iain Urquhart and Lovat’s Steven Cameron. Play restarted with a throw up in the Skye defence whilst the Skye bench felt it should have been further up the field. The Skye defence failed to clear the ball and Cameron nipped in the complete his hat-trick and score what was to prove to be a vital fifth goal. Skye’s David Grant was withdrawn at half time, clearly showing the effects of the very hot day. Neil John Campbell came back into defence, Neil MacVicar dropped back into the centre line and Iain Munro came on in the forward line for his first appearance of the season. Skye reduced the deficit to a single when a glorious 20 yard Kieron Roberts’ strike from the Skye right, flew into the roof of the net to complete his hat-trick. Lovat’s Martin Mainland was sent off midway through the second half when referee MacLennan adjudged that he’d used bad language. He had been warned for a similar offence earlier in the game. Skye pressed their advantage and substitute Jordan Murchison, Shockie MacLennan – twice – and Kieran Roberts all shot wide. Skye just couldn’t find the goal that their comeback merited and the points went to the Balgate side.
