The Skye Camanachd second team surrendered a 2 goal lead as they lost 3-2 to Kinlochshiel at Kirkton on Saturday 27 June 2009.
Skye manager Davie MacVicar made 7 changes to the side which suffered a heavy defeat to Glenurquhart 4 weeks earlier.
Captain Ross Graham is a long term injury absence and he joined Peter Gordon, Angie MacDonald and Neil John Campbell on the sidelines. Stewart Grant was on holiday and Donnie Campbell and Allan MacKinnon were on first team duty.
National U14 Player of the Year Martin Bruce returned in defence as did Andrew Banks on his return from University. Shockie MacLennan’s presence boosted the centre line and Iain MacPherson, Paul MacKinnon, Robert Urquhart and Jordan Murchison were also included.
Paul MacKinnon’s return lasted less than 60 seconds as he suffered a broken nose when he was hit by the ball from point blank range. The youngster was taken to Broadford Hospital but he was released that evening.
Skye started well and a Robert Urquhart cross was turned low into the net by Danny Morrison after only 5 minutes. A Neil MacVicar shot went just past the post moments later and Ian Cameron in the Shiel goal saved well from Danny Morrison.
Skye didn’t have it all their own way though and Scott MacLeod had to made a great save from Graham MacRae to keep his side in the lead.
As the game swung from end to end, a Kieron Roberts shot fizzed just over and Scott MacLeod made a fantastic stop above his head from Sandy MacDiarmid after 25 minutes.
Just 3 minutes later a David Grant free hit found Danny Morrison and he smashed the ball on the half volley to put the Islanders 2-0 ahead.
Scott MacLeod saved well from Graham MacRae a minute later but on the half hour mark, the Skye defence failed to clear the ball and this time Duncan "DA" MacRae made no mistake.
Skye responded when Danny Morrison played in Neil MacVicar and his piledriver was saved by Cameron at his near post. Kieron Roberts fired over 5 minutes from the interval and then Ian Cameron made an incredible save from Danny Morrison to divert the ball for a corner.
Shiel levelled a minute into the second half through Duncan "DA" MacRae's second and Graham MacRae fired an unstoppable shot into the net to put to give the home side the lead for the first time after 57 minutes.
The warm weather was energy sapping and the nearest Skye came to levelling were a shot on target from the half way line from Shockie MacLennan which Cameron did well to deal with and the big keeper also saved well at his left post with his feat from MacLennan again to keep Shiel ahead.
In the end it was disappointment for Skye as Shiel pick up their first points of the season but the Islanders can take heart from having 12 players aged 18 or under in their 15 man squad. Jordan Murchison in particular showed some intelligent touches when he came on.
