The Camanachd Association, in partnership with Argyll & Bute Council, has confirmed the appointment of Darren Reid to the role of Argyll & Bute Shnty Development Officer.
Reid replaces Gillian Currie and he will take up the post on Monday 13 July 2009. His main role will be to promote and develope shinty within the Argyll & Bute area.
Camanachd Association President and acting CEO Duncan Cameron said. "I am delighted to be able to welcome Darren to the team and wish him well in his new role with the Camanachd Association. Darren is a qualified shinty coach who will bring both playing and coaching experience in different roles within the sport into the post. He will also bring knowledge and experiences from his previous working background which will certainly be an asset to our organisation."
A delighted Reid said "I welcome the prospect of becoming the Argyll and Bute Shinty Development Officer and I am fully committed to embracing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the job. I look forward to being part of the Camanachd Association and forming key partnerships with schools, clubs and local authorities. I will enjoy working with them to promote and strengthen shinty in Argyll and Bute."
Reid will be based within the Argyll & Bute Council offices in Oban and will work closely with the Council Sports Development Staff, the Active Schools Network, the Argyll & Bute shinty clubs and the South of Scotland Camanachd Association.
Darren Reid has played shinty for Strathglass for a number of years and he takes over a role in Argyll & Bute held some year’s ago by his brother Garry who went on to be Shinty Development Manager with the Camanachd Association before recently moving to a new post in sportscotland.
