Portree Primary School are through to the North Final of the Tulloch League at the very first time of asking following their fine 6-1 win over Newtonmore at Drum na Drochit on Friday 19 June 2009.
Portree opened the scoring after 10 minutes when Johnnie Laing pass found Andrew Grant and he made no mistake from 15 yards.
Newtonmore drew level within a couple of minutes with a goal from close range.
Portree regained the lead when a long range shot from Alex Macdonald was deflected in by Angie Grant.
Another tidy finish by Andrew Grant made it 3-1 and just before half time, Alex Macdonald scored the goal of the game with a great strike from distance which gave the keeper no chance.
Will Cowie made it 5-0 with a sharp finish from inside the D and Connor Ross completed the scoring right on the final whisle with an excellent finish after he was set up by Will Cowie.
The game was played in miserable conditions both sides deserve great credit providing a super game of Primary shinty. Newtonmore worked hard to make life difficult for Portree and closed the Islanders down at every opportunity. Had it not been for some good saves from Portree keeper Iain MacKenzie late in the game, the score could have been much closer.
Best for Portree were keeper I.P. MacKenzie, Alex MacDonald with some good contributions from the forwards.
