Disappointing 2009 U17 Strathdearn Sixes For Skye Camanachd U17. | |
19 June 2009 Skye Camanachd failed to make the semi final stage of the U17 Strathdearn 6s at Skye opened against Next up for the Skye was Newtonmore and the Eilan side went ahead in the first minute through a Rory Kennedy strike. Skye came more into the match after that but they could not find the net and went down 1-0. Skye then drew 0-0 with Lovat but saved their best performance for their final match against eventual winners Lochaber. This was an entertaining game in which Skye gave a good account of themselves. Lochaber certainly pressured for a winning goal but some good saves from keeper Scott MacLeod and some determined defending by Martin Bruce and Iain Morrison kept the Skye goal in tact. Skye finished third equal with Lovat on 3 points with Lochaber winning the section ahead of Newtonmore on goal difference – both sides had 6 points. It has to be said that this section was particularly strong with both Lochaber and Newtonmore successfully negotiating the semi final stage to reach the final. However the Skye players know that they could have done better and whilst they only conceded one goal in the tournament, their failure to score in any of their 4 section games was their eventual downfall.
