17 June 2009 A total of 10 teams from throughout Skye took part in the competition with Portree A, and South End A qualifying for the semi finals from one section. In the other section, North Skye A and Portree B finished level on points so a penalty shoot-out took place to see who would win the section – and avoid Portree A in the semi finals. Each side took 3 penalties and Portree’s Caitlin MacLean was the star as she blasted her penalty into the net to score the crucial winning goal. Portree A beat The other semi final was a much closer affair and it took a great strike from Portree B player Johnathan Laing to separate the sides and make it an all Portree final. Portree A raced into an early lead in the final with 2 goals in the first 3 minutes. Angie Grant scrambled in the opener and Andrew Grant finished off a good move for the second. The Portree A side were always in control but Davie Pringle’s Portree B gave a very account of themselves with brothers Donald and Ian Nicolson, Caitlin MacLean and James Pringle impressive. Portree A captain for the night Kyle Pirie was presented with the Isle of Skye Round Table 6s Trophy by Ruairidh MacKinnon from Round Table. Andrew Grant of Portree A was league captain and he was presented with the Talisker League trophy. |
