The MacTavish Cup Final was not the only shinty played on Saturday 13 June 2009.
Fort William moved 2 points clear at the top of the National Premier League with a 3-1 win at Bute. This was also going to be a difficult tie for the Fort and they will be delighted to come away with both points. A Gary Innes double and a John MacDonald strike gave them the win with Robert Walker replying for the home side. Fort William are now 2 points clear of second place Glenurquhart. They are also 5 points ahead of both Newtonmore and Kingussie but the MacTavish Cup winners have 3 games in hand and the Kings have 2 games in hand.
A double from David MacInnes and an Iain MacMillan strike gave Oban Camanachd a 3-0 win at Dalmally and heightened Glenorchy’s woes. The win puts Oban into third place – 4 points behind leaders Fort William but with 2 games in hand in what is proving to be a really tight championship race. Glenorchy remain bottom and in serious relegation trouble with only 2 points fro their 9 games.
In Marine Harvest South Division 1, Inveraray and Glasgow Mid Argyll shared 4 goals in their meeting at Winterton Park. It was the visitors who started well and they took the lead with a Gary Luke strike after 7 minutes. Andy McGhee doubled their lead after 20 minutes and just when it looked as if Inveraray were going to go into the half time break with it all to do, Russell McKinley pulled a goal back. Mid Argyll held on to their single goal advantage until 10 minutes from the end when a Stewart Robertson strike earned Inveraray a share of the points.
Glengarry joined Lovat and Kingussie in joint third place in Marine Harvest North Division 2 with an exciting 5-3 win over Caberfeidh at Castle Leod. Goals from Alan Ross, Jordy Gorski and Stuart Kryzanowski were not enough for the home side as a Martin Cameron and a double each from Steven Cameron and Stewart Gregor took the points to Invergarry.
A Neil Black strike gave Col Glen a 1-0 home win over Aberdour in Marine Harvest South Division 2. The win takes Col Glen into joint second place on 10 points with Taynuilt although Taynuilt do have 4 games in hand.
Aberdeen University regained the lead in Marine Harvest North Division 3 with an impressive 4-0 home win over Lochbroom. Stewart McDonald gave them the lead after 23 minutes with the only goal of the first half. Terry Stebbings made it 2-0 just 7 minutes into the second half and veteran Jamie Bell made the points safe with a goal after 73 minutes. John MacFadyen put the icing on the cake with a goal 3 minutes from the end. Aberdeen go 2 points clear at the top of the table but Lochbroom have a game in hand. With Lochaber, Beauly, Strathglass and Boleskine all still in contention, it looks to be an exciting end to the league season.
