08 June 2009 Trophy holders Tir Conaill Harps and 2008 runners-up Glengarry will cross camans again in this season’s Valerie Fraser Women’s Camanachd Cup Final. Both emerged victorious after closely-contested Valerie Fraser Women’s Camanachd Cup semi-finals at the TCH overcame a plucky Glengarry defeated Glasgow Mid-Argyll 5-4 in a splendid contest where both sides enjoyed spells of dominance. Yet again Sarah Corrigal was Garry’s shooting star, netting her side’s first four goals. Fiona Cumming was also on target for the winners, but they found Mid-Argyll a tough team to overcome. Goals from Kirsty Gray and a Lisa Norman cracker had the In the quarter-finals of the Caledonian Canal Challenge Cup for Division Two teams, holders Badenoch & Strathspey had much the clearest win of the day – disposing of a plucky but below-strength Linlithgow 15-0. Nine players put their names on the scoresheet, led by hat-tricks from Kirsty Deans and Jeanette MacGregor. Other goals by the way of doubles from Elizabeth MacGrego, Julie McWhirter, and strikes from Sarah Caird, Lindsay Deans, Karen Hamilton, Erin McNiven and Jane Nicol. In the semi-finals on August 16 2009, Badenoch will face a repeat of last season’s final against Strathglass, who overcame Lochaber 3-2 in arguably the tightest game of the day. Carly Lucy Macleod netted a second Strathglass equaliser midway through the period and, with extra time looming, Emma MacGillivray scored the Cannich side’s winner in a match which followed an almost identical pattern to last season’s cup semi between the same teams. |
