07 June 2009 Skye Camanachd have gone 5 points clear at the top of Marine Harvest North Division 1 with a 3-1 win against Skye Camanachd manager Angie Murchison restored Steven Morrison to his usual full back position and moved Jamie MacDonald to buckshee back. Somhairle MacDonald returned to the forward line after injury. Skye started well and within a couple of minutes, Dougie Rankin had a shot saved by A minute later a great pass from Somhairle MacDonald released Ally MacLennan down the Skye left. MacLennan’s cross was met by Norman MacLeod but MacLeod saved a gain. It was a hectic period for Allan MacLeod and he had to save from Kenny Campbell following a Skye corner on the right. Kerr Gibb put a great ball from the centre line on target after 14 minutes but MacLeod saved and cleared before the Skye forwards could react. The first half continued in a similar vein punctured by On 43 minutes, Ally MacLennan made a chance for himself when he won possession but his shot went wide. Just when it looked as if the sides were going to go into the interval on level terms, Skye struck. Somhairle MacDonald made a good run from the right only to be brought crashing to the ground just outside the D. Dougie Rankin knocked the free hit to MacDonald but his shot was blocked, however Rankin made no mistake from the rebound as he smacked the ball low, into the net. Kerr Gibb played a great ball to Dougie Rankin on the Skye right, 10 minutes after the break. Rankin’s cross found Somhairle MacDonald whose shot was blocked. However the clearance fell to Norman MacLeod who dispatched the ball into the net. Skye seemed comfortable however Skye manager Angie Murchison responded by introducing Shockie MacLennan, Alan Palmer and Donnie Campbell for Kerr Gibb, Norman MacLeod and Dougie Rankin. The changes suited Skye and 6 minutes from the end, Somhairle MacDonald brought down an MacDonald almost repeated the feat a minute later when he fired a Shockie MacLennan corner into the side net. This was a good couple of points for Skye especially as second placed Kilmallie were defeated by Beauly. They had most of the pressure but Best for Skye were Ian Nicolson, again, as he continues to impress in defence and Gilleasbuig MacDonald and Kenny Campbell in midfield. Somhairle MacDonald’s return was welcome and the Skye forward line has a better balance with his presence.
