Aberdeen University booked their place in the line-up for the women’s shinty festival cup day next month with victory against Tir Conaill Harps on Sunday 24 May 2009.

A double from Aisling O’Shea and a strike from Jolanta Lundgren saw the Aberdeen girls to a 3-1 win in their Caledonian Canal Challenge Cup first round tie against Glasgow visitors Tir Conaill Harps, for whom Sarah Murdin replied.

Aberdeen’s reward is a quarter-final against Lochgilphead-based Dunadd on the big cup day for the women’s game, which takes place at the University of Stirling on Sunday June 7 2009.

All four quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup plus the semi-finals of the Valerie Fraser Camanachd Cup will be played at the university campus in Bridge of Allan on a showcase day for the sport.

In North Division Two, Glengarry registered their second success of the season with a 1-0 win away to Strathglass.

Laura McConachie hit the bar for the home side in a goalless first period but, as Glengarry’s greater experience began to tell, Strath were indebted to goalkeeper Gillian Currie for keeping the visitors at bay until 10 minutes from time when Lauren Doherty finished neatly from close range following a corner.
