23 May 2009 The Skye Camanachd first team secured two more valuable points in Marine Harvest North Division 1 with a win over Caberfeidh at Castle Leod on Saturday 23 May 2009. Skye Camanachd first team manager Angie Murchison made just one change from the side which beat Kinlochshiel at Kirkton last weekend with Norman MacLeod starting instead of Alan Palmer. Indeed the only change to the squad was the return of vice captain Steven Morrison who replaced Keith MacKenzie on the bench. Murchison decided not to play Morrison from the start in case he aggravated a recent hand injury. The first half was a fairly even affair but Skye turned the screw after the break. However they found Cabers keeper Archie Ritchie in top form and he made around half a dozen outstanding saves. One double save, initially from a Somhairle MacDonald effort, particularly caught the eye as did another save under the bar from a MacDonald rocket shot. However a single goal was enough to win the match, as it was at home to Strathglass a couple of weeks ago. And just as in the Strathglass game, it was Ally MacLennan who got the vital strike as he collected a bouncing ball, did a couple of keepy-uppies and lobbed the keeper into the far corner of the net. A goal fit to win any match. This was Skye’s third consecutive single goal league victory and the fact that they have only lost only one goal in that period shows that they have become a difficult side to beat. This was a particularly good second half performance from Skye and but for the outstanding performance from Caberfeidh keeper Archie Ritchie, the winning margin would surely have been greater. Speaking after the game, manager Angie Murchison was delighted to take two points from such a difficult venue. He was also particularly pleased with the performance of his defence and he was very content with the number of chances created by his forwards. However he was a little concerned about Somhairle MacDonald’s elbow knock and he will hope to have his play-maker fit for the home match against Cabers next Saturday. Skye maintain their 3 point lead over Kilmallie who beat Skye Camanachd from; Jamie Gannon, Jamie MacDonald, AB Connor, Iain Nicolson, Allan MacLeod, Kenny Campbell, (captain), Gilleasbuig MacDonald, Kerr Gibb, Somhairle MacDonald, (Alan Palmer), Norman MacLeod (Shockie MacLennan) Ally MacLennan, Dougie Rankin sub Steven Morrison (not used),.
