10 May 2009 The Skye Camanachd U14 A side had a comfortable win over Kingussie in the first round of the MacMaster Cup at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 9 May 2009. Skye opened the scoring after 10 minutes when a cross from the left by Will Cowie sailed over everyone and crept into the net at the back post. It was the first of 5 goals for the youngster who was to have a very productive afternoon. Just 3 minutes later Skye captain Jordan Murchison treated the crowd to a display of keepy-up as he burst through the middle of the pitch. His pass found Cowie who drilled the ball into the net. A minute later, Kings keeper Chris Holley-Song made a great save from a Murchison shot but Euan Forrest reacted before the defenders and netted from the rebound. In 16 minutes, full forward Stuart MacSween held the ball up well and he slipped a pass to Jordan Murchison who fired low into the corner of the net to make the score 4-0. After 30 minutes, Holley-Song again saved well from Murchison and MacSween collected the rebound and set up Will Cowie for his hat-trick. A couple of minutes later, Murchison found A minute later a Cowie shot was saved by Holley-Song only for MacSween to net the rebound for his second goal. Stuart MacSween also got the final goal of the first half to compete his hat-trick and make the interval score 8-0 to the home side. Both sides made changes at the beginning of the second half. The Kings put Robert Mason in goal and Skye manager Willie Cowie replaced the influential Jordan Murchison and Mark Mortimer with Andrew Grant and Kyle Pirie. Will Cowie found the net 12 minutes into the second period with a crisp 20 yard shot, low into the net. Cowie scored his fifth and Skye’s tenth goal a couple of minutes later. Skye gave keeper Iain MacLeod a run in the forward line for the closing 15 minutes with Euan Forrest taking his place between the sticks. MacLeod certainly made the most of his opportunity and he scored Skye’s final goal when he neatly drove a cross from the left past Mason into the net. Skye’s top performers were Willie Cowie and Jordan Murchison for his first half performance. Chris MacLennan also looked very comfortable at buckshee back. Johnnie MacDonald also did well in what was his first match for the senior U14 side. Jake MacPherson was Kingussie’s top performer and Robert Mason and Rory MacGregor did well. Young Jack Anderson up front also showed enough to suggest that he is also one for the future.
