10 May 2009 The weather took its toll on the fixtures on Saturday 9 May 2009. The most exciting tie of the day in the Camanachd Cup was at Balgate where National Premier League bottom club Glenorchy were the visitors. It looked as if the top division side were going to sweep away their Marine Harvest North Division 1 opponents when they raced into a 3-0 lead. Grant MacPherson scored twice in the first half after 10 minutes and 37 minutes and he went on to complete his hat-trick after 55 minutes. Lovat pulled a goal back 10 minutes later with a Greg Matheson strike and Euan Ferguson reduced the deficit to a single goal just 5 minutes later. Matheson scored his second after 76 minutes to take the tie into extra time. As both sides went for the winner, it was Lovat’s Euan Ferguson who was the hero with his second strike of the day just 5 minutes from the end. His goal sealed a quarter final trip to play Kingussie at the Dell. Beauly took a 24 minute lead with a Jamie MacLennan strike against National Premier League side Inveraray. However the south side fought back and Garry MacPherson rattled in a 6 minute hat-trick before the break to give them the advantage. MacPherson went on to score his and Inveraray’s fourth on the hour to seal a visit to Kingussie won through against a resilient Caberfeidh side at the Dell. Kingussie talisman Ronald Ross is obviously keen to make up for the disappointment of last year’s final as he stacked up 4 goals. He gave Kings the lead after 10 minutes and scored his second after half an hour. Ross went on to complete his hat-trick from the penalty spot a couple of minutes before the break. David Mellis pulled a goal back for Cabers 5 minutes after the interval but veteran forward restored Kingussie’s 3 goal advantage on the hour mark. Ross scored his fourth and Kingussie’s fifth 10 minutes later and his side will now have a quarter final tie at home to Lovat. Marine Harvest North Division 1 side Kinlochshiel made the relatively short journey to Drum na Drochit to take on National Premier League newcomers Glenurquhart. Scott MacLean gave the visitors the lead after 10 minutes but Billy Urquhart levelled the tie 6 minutes later. There was no further scoring and so an extra time period ensued. Gordy MacDonald, Shiel’s super sub last week in the Balliemore Cup against Kilmallie, was the hero once again when he struck 17 minutes into the extra period. The Glen, with Eddie Tembo back in their line up, will rue a missed penalty but it’s Shiel who will now play the winners of the Kyles Athletic's tie with Newtonmore at Tigh na Bruach was abandoned with the home side leading by a single goal.
