08 May 2009 The Camanachd Cup and Sutherland Cup take centre stage on Saturday 9 May 2009. The most interesting tie in the Camanachd Cup second round is Newtonmore’s trip to Tigh na Bruach to play Kyles Athletic. A last minute goal from Tom Whyte earned Kyles a two each draw at the Eilan a month ago. This match has a 2.30 throw up and not 12 noon as originally advertised. Another exciting tie will take place at 3pm at An Aird when local rivals Kinlochshiel make the relatively short journey to Drum na Drochit to take on Glenurquhart. The Glen have been missing several players in recent weeks and Shiel come into the tie on the back of a good win over Kilmallie last week with a double from super sub Gordy MacDonald. This match also throws up at 12 noon. There is another all Premier tie when Lochaber travel to Mossfield to play second placed league side Oban Camanachd. Marine Harvest North Division 1 fourth placed side Lovat play the National Premier League’s bottom side Glenorchy at Balgate. Kingussie should have a straight forward task when they host lowly North Division 1 side Caberfeidh. Cabers suffered a heavy defeat at the Dell in a pre-season friendly and they will find this cup encounter to be equally difficult. Lochcarron, boosted by last week’s Balliemore Cup win over Skye Camanachd, make the long trip to Rothesay to take on National Premier League side There is another National Premier League versus North Division 1 clash when Beauly host Inveraray. The draw for the second round will be mad after the tie between The only tie in Marine Harvest North Division 1 sees third placed Strathglass travel to Portree to take on Skye Camanachd. A win would take either side to the top of the league – Skye by a point or Strathglass on goal difference. Strathglass have a potent strike-force with older head Robert Geddes teaming up with young Marc McLaughlin. There are two ties in Marine Harvest South Division 1. There’s an Oban derby when Oban Celtic host league leaders Lochside Rovers. Bottom side Tayforth play Glasgow Mid Argyll in The second round of the Sutherland Cup has also produced some interesting ties. Kingussie travel to Glengarry, where they won 3-2 on Marine Harvest Division 2 duty earlier this season. Aberdour face a difficult task when the host last season’s Sutherland Cup runners up Glasgow Mid Argyll were to host Marine Harvest North Division 3 bottom side Kincraig at Yoker but the match has been switched to Kincraig. Newtonmore travel to Strathglass. The Kyles Athletic versus Kinlochshiel match is off as both pitches are unplayable. Caberfeidh have been awarded a walkover against Glengarry. |
