03 May 2009 The Fort took advantage over their over their rival as Kingussie didn’t have a game, Newtonmore’s match at A Chris Bamber strike after 24 minutes gave them victory at An Aird against newly promoted Glenurquhart. Fort will be especially pleased to have won the points given they were missing the injured James Clark. They were also without last weekend’s hat-trick hero Gary Innes, Bryan Simpson and the suspended Adam Robertson. However Glenurquhart also had absentees in their ranks with Arran Macdonald, Andrew Macdonald, and Paul Mackintosh as well as longer term absentee Eddie Tembo all missing. Lochaber’s squad was also put to the test as they had 6 players missing for the visit of Glenorchy to Kyles Athletic only trailed top side The Balliemore Cup holders Skye Camanachd are out of the competition after going out in the first round at Lochcarron. They Islanders certainly created enough chance to win the tie but they weren’t clinical enough in front of goal. John Martin Philips gave the home side the lead after 51 minutes but Somhairle MacDonald levelled just 3 minutes later. The match went into extra time and it was veteran Iain MacKenzie who was to toast of Lochcarron as his goal won them a quarter final visit to Balgate to face Lovat. Three quarter final ties also went ahead. Kilmory had already shown Caberfeidh that they were no push-overs when they went down to a single goal defeat in the Camanachd Cup earlier in the season. They returned to Castle Leod at the weekend and ran out 2-1 winners. Lee Nicol gave the home side the lead a minute before the break. However Cabers had Kirk Taylor sent off 5 minutes after the interval. Kilmory equalised through Calum McKinven after 70 minutes and when referee Graham Cameron awarded them a penalty 4 minutes from the end, Steven Gilmour made to mistake from the spot. This win means that Kilmory will face Kinlochshiel in the semi finals after the West Coast side had a good 2-1 win over Kilmallie at Kirkton. The visitors have been in fine form lately and they took the lead through Liam MacDonald after 50 minutes. However Kinlochshiel manager Keith Loades brought on substitute Gordy MacDonald and he repaid his manager’s faith with two goals in 2 minutes after 72 and 74 minutes to seal the win. Strathglass put the disappointment of last week’s defeat to Caberfeidh behind them as they won 2-1 at Yoker against Glasgow Mid Argyll. Ryan Stewart gave the home side the lead after 14 minutes however Lee Bain levelled right on half time. Marc McLaughlin put the Strath ahead 2 minutes after half time and they will now face the winners of the Lovat / Lochcarron tie in the semi finals. Lovat dropped a point in Marine Harvest North Division 1 when they had a goalless draw at the Bught against Lochside Rovers extended their lead at the top of the Marine Harvest South Division 1 with a 5-2 win in Glenurquhart continued on their winning ways in Marine Harvest North Division 2 with a 2-1 win over Kingussie at Drum na Drochit. David Smart gave them the lead on the half hour mark and Ben Hosie doubled their lead 3 minutes before the break. Ryan Borthwick pulled a goal back after 67 minutes but the Glen took advantage of Glengarry fought back from being two goals down at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree to share the points with Skye Camanachd. A first half double from Allan MacKinnon put the Islanders ahead but two goals from Stuart Gregory in the last 8 minutes earned Garry a point. Craig MacPhee gave Kilmallie a 2 minute lead over Lovat at A Mark MacDonald double and a Chris Sellar goal gave Newtonmore a 3-2 victory over Kinlochshiel at the Eilan. This was only ‘More’s second win of the season and it lifts them above Skye into 7th place in the table. Strachur leap-frog Kyles Athletic into top spot in Marine Harvest South Division 2 when they beat them 3-1 at Home Farm. Gus Finlayson gave Kyles the lead a minute before the break but Alasdair Mirlees immediately equalised. Kevin Nairn put the home side ahead after 57 minutes and Andrew Robertson made it 3-1 in 70 minutes. Aberdour ran out 7-0 winners at home to bottom club Ballachulish. Alex Mitchell bagged a hat-trick and Alasdair Shaw, Calum Shaw and a Doug Newsome double were the other scorers. Aberdour’s Alasdair Shaw and Ballachulish’s Robbie Nelson were both sent off in the 65th minute. The top five sides played the bottom five sides in Marine Harvest North Division 3. Second placed Lochaber beat Lochcarron 9-0 at Stewart Callison who scored four goals. Liam Kennedy and Keith Neville hit doubles all after Connor Sweeney had opened the scoring. Third placed Lochbroom were also convincing winners with a 4-0 win over Boleskine had a 6-2 win over bottom club Kincraig. Lewis Smith scored a hat-trick and Raymond Robertson a double. Darren MacLeod scored their other whilst John Clark and Iain Grant replied for Kincraig. Beauly ensured that there was no change in the top five with a 7-1 win over Strathglass. Terry MacAllister put them ahead after only 3 minutes and Jack MacDonald made it two after 16 minutes. MacAllister then scored three in a 10 minute burst to take his personal tally to four goals. Simon Holmes made it 6-0 a minute before the interval and MacDonald scored his second goal 5 minutes into the second half. Josh Fraser scored Strath’s consolation on the hour mark. |
