Lochcarron 2 Skye Camanachd 1 (after extra time). | |
03 May 2009 Holders Skye Camanachd went out of the Balliemore Cup in the first round, losing 2 - 1 to Lochcarron at Battery Park on Saturday 2 May 2009. Skye manager Angie Murchison was unwell and never travelled to the match so his assistant Aonghas MacDonald looked after the side. Defender John Moir was unavailable as he was sitting an exam in Skye had the bulk of the pressure in this tie but they could not convert their dominance into goals. The match was goalless at the interval and it was John Martin Philips who broke the deadlock and gave the home side the lead after 51 minutes. Skye responded though and Somhairle MacDonald as he levelled just 3 minutes later. There was no further scoring so referee John Sloggie took the match into the extra time period. The pattern of the game continued but it was Lochcarron who took their chance when Iain MacKenzie beat Jamie Gannon to score the winner. Lochcarron travel to Balgate to face Lovat in the second round. This result leaves the Skye Camanachd first team out of all 3 cup competitions which is an obvious disappointment. However the league has always been the priority for Skye this season and the team can now be fully focussed on picking up the points necessary to win promotion to the National Premier League.
