01 May 2009 The MacTavish Cup quarter finals went to form on The closest MacTavish Cup encounter was the derby match between Lovat and Beauly at Balgate. The visitors took the lead after 10 minutes when player / manager Stephen “Murph” MacLean netted. However a James MacKenzie strike 5 minutes later was the only other goal in the first half. Greg Matheson fired Lovat into the lead after 56 minutes but David MacLean levelled the tie after 70 minutes. Raymond Rennie scored what proved to be the winner 10 minutes from the end by Beauly will rue a missed penalty when the tie was still level. Kingussie had to work hard to break down an under-strength Glenurquhart side at the Dell. They only had a Kevin Thain goal on the half hour mark to show for their first half efforts. However Thain added his second 5 minutes after the break and a double from Ronald Ross in 56 and 64 minutes put them in the driving seat. John Gibson scored the King’s fifth goal in 75 minutes and Lewis MacLennan pulled a consolation goal back from the Glen with 5 minutes to go. Lovat, the only Division 1 side left in the competition, now have the task of facing Kingussie in the semi finals although they will have home advantage. Newtonmore went behind at the Eilan to a Ben Delaney strike after 5 minutes. David Cheyne levelled after 25 minutes and a strike in each half from Glen MacKintosh put them through to the semi finals where they will enjoy home advantage against The Glasgow Celtic Society Cup quarter finals also went to form and holders Inveraray had a convincing 7-1 win over Kilmory. Neil Campbell hit four and Gary MacPherson a double. Graham MacPherson and Ali Munro also got their names on the score sheet with Hal Jones replying for Kilmory. Kyles Athletic won 5-1 at Dalmally against Glenorchy. Fraser MacDonald and Duncan Kerr both scored twice with Grant Irvine getting the other. Fulton Ronald replied for the home side. Oban Camanachd trounced rivals Oban Celtic 13-1 at Mossfield. Aiden MacIntyre was their top scorer with four whilst Bryan MacCallum, Scott MacMillan and Craig MacMillan hit doubles. David Devine, Iain MacMillan and Kilmallie go top of Marine Harvest North Division 1 after a controversial 5-4 win over Skye Camanachd at The shock result of the day was Strathglass’ defeat by the odd goal in five against Caberfeidh at Cannich. Garry Reid and Robbie Stokes scored for the home side but goals from Ian MacColl, Gavin MacDonald and Kevin Bartlett took the points to Castle Leod. This was Strath’s first defeat of the season and Cabers first win. Glengarry knocked one of the more fancied sides out of the Strathdearn Cup with an extra time win at Invergarry. Glen were missing some of their regular players who were called up to the first team because of absentees there. However they showed no signs of weakness in the first half as young Ewen Brady gave them a 2 minute lead and (the not so) young Stuart Morrison scored a second after 26 minutes. The Glengarry fight back began 5 minutes after the break through Steven Cameron. A 67 minute effort from Martin Cameron took the match into extra time and Martin Cameron went on to complete his hat-trick with goals in 95 and 118 minutes. A tremendous goalkeeping display from Stuart MacDonald was a major factor in Beauly’s 2-1 extra time victory at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree against Skye Camanachd. Allan MacKinnon gave the Islanders the lead after 15 minutes but a good run and shot from Steven Tillman 8 minutes later levelled the game. A series of saves from MacDonald during the remainder of the match took the tie into extra time. Skye continued to pressure the Beauly goal only for the visitors to break away in the last minute and 15 year old Jordan Keil scored to win a second round tie at home to Kincraig. Kinlochshiel had a convincing 6-1 win over Two goals from Mark Graham either side of the break gave Kilmallie a two goal lead over Kingussie at Newtonmore picked up their first league points of the season with a 2-0 win over Lovat at the Eilan. John MacKenzie and Andy MacKintosh were their second half goal scorers. Kyles Athletic go top of Marine Harvest South Division 2 with a 2-0 win over previous leaders Strachur. Alasdair MacKay and Fraser Williamson got the goals. Glasgow Mid Argyll and Glenorchy shared the points at Yoker. Andrew MacFarlane scored for the home side and John McNulty scored for the visitors. Strathglass leap-frog Lochcarron after their 5-0 success at Battery Park. Ali MacAdam continued his good goal scoring run and Ali Rothe, Josh Fraser, Gordon Fraser and Mark MacLeod scored the others. A Pat Toal double lifted Lochaber into second place as they beat Lochbroom 2-1 at Boleskine are fourth following their 4-1 win at bottom club Kincraig. Lewis Smith, Raymond Robertson, Sandy Fraser and Simon Fraser got the goals. Neil Ross scored for the home side. |
