Kilmallie 5 Skye Camanachd 4. | |
26 April 2009 The Skye Camanachd first team lost out to Kilmallie in controversial circumstances in their North Division 1 clash at Kilmallie took the lead after only 5 minutes when Fraser Massie was given time to fire home. It was 5 minutes from the break before they scored their second through John Stewart. The home side went 3-0 up just 3 minutes after the break when Trevor Jackson found the net from what seemed a blatantly offside position. Skye however are nothing if not resilient and Norman MacLeod scored just 5 minutes later to pull a goal back. Somhairle MacDonald reduced the deficit to a single goal after 56 minutes. However Skye’s task was made all the more difficult after 63 minutes when the Kilmallie goal judge signalled for a penalty to the home side for a “kick” against a Skye defender when it appeared that it was Kilmallie’s Jackson who played the ball with his stick. John Stewart took advantage of the decision to score his second and Kilmallie’s fourth goal of the game. Stewart completed his hat-trick 4 minutes later and Skye looked out of things again. Kilmallie’s Peter Carmichael had been booked for clattering Skye’s Kenny Campbell on the ankle. The Islanders stormed back Iain Nicolson made the score 5-3 after 83 minutes and Skye’s pressure was such that defenders Steven Morrison and John Moir pent the remainder of the match on the half-way line. Somhairle MacDonald made the score 5-4 after 90 minutes but in the end the visitors ran out of time and Kilmallie took both points to leap-frog Skye and top the table.
