25 April 2009 The home side took the initiative after 5 minutes when an Andrew Grant free hit found captain Willie Cowie and he blasted the ball into the net. Angie Grant almost doubled the lead after 17 minutes but his shot was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Inverlochy keeper Jay MacLeod. Just 3 minutes later, Angie Grant played in his cousin Andrew Grant and he drove a low show into the net. James Pringle showed great determination to net from a goal mouth scramble to make it three after 21 minutes and 20 yard piledriver fro Willie Cowie made it four. Portree were rampant and the Inverlochy defence found it difficult to cope with the constant pressure. Angie Grant got his name on the score sheet after 26 minutes and the same player had a great run and shot a minute later to make the score 6-0. Grant wasn’t finished there as he completed a 3 minute hat-trick just before the break to give Portree a commanding 7-0 interval lead. Portree started the second half in equally determined fashion and Willie Cowie again shot from distance just a couple of minutes after the restart to complete his hat-trick and make the score 8-0. A minute later Angie Grant ran wide to fire in his fourth goal of the game. Portree coach Willie Cowie rang the changes introducing all 3 substitutes and withdrawing the offensive players which were causing all sorts of problems for Inverlochy to more defensive positions within the Portree team. The goals slowed up but Andrew Grant still managed to make it 10 when he netted from the most acute angle. Inverlochy came into the game a bit more following the changes and Portree keeper Iain Patrick MacKenzie saved well on two occasions – once with his head – to keep the visitors at bay. However no one in the large crowd present could grudge Inverlochy their consolation goal when Gregor MacIsacc collected the ball from a free hit and gave MacKenzie no chance with a sublime finish. Portree have a home tie with Fort William RC in the next round and whilst they had no below par performers today, Willie Cowie and Angie Grant were particular stand outs.
