North Skye put in a great performance in the P4-5 National First Shinty Festival in Fort William on Saturday 21 March 2009, eventually finishing runners up to Tomnacross.
There was a great standard of teams in the competition and Skye were represented by both North Skye and South Skye.
The North Skye side, coached by Skye Camanachd’s Camanachd Cup winner Donnie “Digg” MacDonald, won all five of their section matches to qualify for the semi finals. They faced a Caberfeidh side who were runners up in their section and won 1-0 with a Fenn MacDonald goal.
The second semi final was between Tomnacross and last year’s winners Newtonmore with the Lovat side winning through to the final.
The final was both exciting and dramatic. The match finished 3-3 after normal time with North Skye’s John Gillies scoring a hat-trick. In fact North Skye were moments away from winning the cup but Tomnacross hit a last minute equaliser.
The match went to goalden goal and it was heartbreak for the North Skye Youngsters as Tomnacross scored the all important goal to win the competition.
The North Skye squad was; Charlie Matheson, Harry Wade, Burton Wade, John Gillies, Calum Campbell, Isla Campbell, Fenn Buchanan, Anna MacDonald
