Skye Camanachd 1 Fort William 3. | |
15 March 2009 Skye Camanachd went down 3-1 to This match was heavily influenced by a particularly strong wind. The Skye goal had several close escapes, before Victor Smith took advantage of a slip in the Skye defence to blast the ball into the net. The Skye defence had opportunities to clear the ball in the lead up to the goal but it is hard to be critical of the defenders who had to deal with intense pressure for the whole of the first half. Ross Graham in the Skye goal was in outstanding form and he made several great saves during this period. Just when it looked as if Skye were going to survive to the break with only a one goal deficit, the Fort scored their second goal courtesy of Victor Smith. The experienced forward received a pass with his back to goal and the full forward found the space to turn and finish expertly. Fort also hit the Skye post and crossbar and the fact that the Skye rear-guard restricted the Fort to a two goal half time lead gave the Skye support great optimism for the second half. Skye lost full centre Shockie MacLennan 10 minutes before half time to a nasty heel knock. This happened during the first 15 minutes of the match and although he played on, he was clearly in some discomfort. MacLennan was replaced by Stewart Grant. Skye also introduced Malky Munro for forward Neil MacVicar at the interval. Skye got themselves back into the match 10 minutes into the second half and it was Danny Morrison who fired a good strike into the net. However Daniel Stewart followed up his two goals last week with the crucial strike midway through the second half after he was set up by Victor Smith. Skye’s Martin Bruce and Skye player / manager Davie MacVicar came on for Keith MacKenzie and Skye had chances after that but it was Skye Camanachd from; Ross Graham (captain), David Grant, Willie MacRae, Martin Bruce, Ian Nicolson, Scott Martin, Shockie MacLennan, (Malcolm Munro), Iain MacPherson, Danny Morrison, Neil MacVicar, (Stewart Grant), Keith MacKenzie, ( |
