09 March 2009 Skye Camanachd Chairman Ross Cowie offered his congratulations to the Skye Camanachd U14 team as news emerged that they had won the U14 2008 North Divison 1. Cowie congatulated team manager Davie MacVicar and coach Willie Cowie who led the players through weekly training sessions. He said "I'm delighted that Skye Camanachd U14s are league champions once again. We have not won this competition for a few years after being regular winners for a time. I've enjoyed watching the U14s this season and their success confirms the view that we have an excellent batch of young players at the club at the moment. The first team is still a young side and our juveniles are getting their chance in the second team. The U14s are league champions and Portree Primary School are MacKay Cup winners once again. The future looks bright for shinty on Skye and it's important that everyone continues to work hard so that the young talent continue to develop into the stars of tomorrow." He added, "Three U14 players, Martin Bruce, Scott MacLeod and Iain Grant were selected for the North U14 side and just this week, Shockie MacLennan, Danny Morrison, Neil MacVicar and Paul MacKinnon have been selected for the Scotland Development squad's trip to Dublin in July. Steven Morrison has represented the Scotland U21s for the last two seasons and he is still eligible to play again this year so we have quality as well as quantity at youth level." Cowie went on to pay tribute to the work of the Isle of Skye Primary Schools Camanachd Association. "They are so active that Skye Camanachd has to field two U14 sides to met the demand from players moving out of primary school age. We are the only club in Scotland to do this and the contribution made by the Isle of Skye Primary Schools Camanachd Association is hugely significant and much appreciated." Cowie said that Skye Camanachd would try and arrange one final game for this particular U14 side so that they could be presented with the North Division 1 Trophy and medals.
