06 March 2009 Innes is a talented accordionist and a member of groups Box Club and The Darien Project. He also performs in his own right. Innes believes that his shinty performances could endanger his career as a musician but has no plans to give up the sport that he has played since he was a lad. "I've had warnings before," he told BBC Scotland on the eve of the new shinty season. "I've heard of a couple of bets from different clubs, I won't name names, that there are pots of money for the first player to break my fingers. "It's an amateur sport, so if these guys can get a bit of money for a pint on Saturday, then fair play." Innes has not considered giving up the sport to protect his hands, and said: "I've grown up all my life playing shinty. "I had a shinty stick in my hand before music became an issue. I love it."
