Skye Camanachd B, Kinlochshiel and Uist Serve Up Tournament Treat. | |
01 February 2009 Skye Camanachd B, Kinlochshiel and Uist took part in a friendly tournament at Pairc nan Laoch on Saturday 31 January 2009. Kinlochshiel and Uist were first to play and this entertaining match was evenly matched until Aiden MacRae fired Shiel into the lead. Robin Smith and Oliver MacRae gave Shiel a 3-0 interval lead. There was only one goal in the second half, a tap-in scored by Duncan Newton-Grant. The Uist team was well served by keeper Duncan MacDonald and full centre Alasdair Ferguson. Next up were Kinlochshiel and Skye B. Skye B played with the wind in the first half and they used this advantage well as Willie Cowie reacted quickest to knock-in a rebound off the keeper. Stuart MacSween doubled the lead before substitute Angie MacPherson gave Skye B a 3-0 lead. Shiel had the wind advantage in a more even second half. Stuart MacSween scored his second and Chris MacLennan netted with Alasdair Nixon finding the net for Shiel. The final match between Skye B and Uist was also a keenly fought affair. Uist put Oisin Buckley into goal with Duncan MacDonald moving into defence and this seemed to strengthen the side. Skye B opened the scoring when Ally Macleod fired in a great strike – probably the goal of the tournament – before Andrew Grant doubled their lead. Willie Cowie made it three before Andrew Grant scored his second and Skye B’s fourth. However the biggest cheer of the afternoon came when Ewen Campbell – who had played in most positions throughout the afternoon except keeper - was first to a rebound from a blocked shot to score for Uist. Scott MacLennan, Ruairidh Morrison, Jack Latton, Angie MacPherson and The enthusiasm displayed by the Uist team in particular was an inspiration to the large crowd - and the BBC Alba crew who followed the tournament – and the commitment shown by parents and their coaching team has helped to create a very promising young team. |
