First Team to finish in the top 5 in the Marine Harvest North Division 1.
First team finished in 5th place in Marine Harvest North Division 1.
Target met
The first team made a slow start to the season losing their first 3 games. However what essentially was a new, very young team settled down, and performances and results improved and the team finished in 5th place. Manager Alasdair Morrison is taking a break following 3 years in charge of the first team and 3 years in charge of the second team before that. The Balliemore Cup run may have been a slight detraction from the league campaign but all in all, the team’s performance gives a good platform for the new manager to continue the good work to date.

Second Team to finish in the top 5 in the Marine Harvest North Division 2.
Second team finished in 6th place in Marine Harvest North Division 2.
Target not met
The second team finished in 6th place and were 1 point short of their target of 5th place. Kinlochshiel were 5th and they benefited from a point awarded in their favour from a shared game (which wasn’t played) against Fort William at the end of the season. The second team provided 3 players – John Moir, Shockie MacLennan and Danny Morrison - for the first team during the season. We have a young, developing second team and their primary function is to provide young players ready to meet the challenge of first team shinty. A nucleus of young players including Neil John Campbell, Stewart Grant, Neil MacVicar, Martin Bruce and Robert Urquhart have established themselves in the side and should be joined by Ian Grant, Scott MacLeod, and Paul MacKinnon in 2009.

U17 team to reach the Area Finals.
The U17 League is played through the winter and so League matches are continuing.
Ongoing
The Area Final format has been replaced by Regional Leagues. Skye Camanachd U17s have been placed in a very strong League. Two of the other sides – Fort William and Lochaber - are particularly strong at this age group. The other team, Kilmallie, will provide a better measure of Skye’s progress. Skye has a particularly young team at this age group and only 3 players from the squad of 15 will be ineligible to play next season. Skye has lost their opening 2 games against Fort William and Lochaber and there are still 4 league games to play at this stage of the season.
U14 Team to continue with 2 teams at this level and reach Area Finals.
Both teams participated in the Leagues in 2008.
Target met
The Skye Camanachd A team are currently top of North Division 1 after winning their Local League. They have one game remaining and are serious challengers for League title. They reached the North Final of the MacMaster Cup and lost a toss of the coin for home advantage to Fort William. After a 3-3 draw, Skye eventually lost on penalties - sudden death after the sides were level after the first 5 penalties. Fort William won the final convincingly. The Skye Camanachd B team also competed in the Local League and North Division 3 and in the Development Cup where they reached the semi final stage. The B team ensures there are plenty opportunities for all players who come through the Primary School network.

Have Skye Camanachd players selected for the representative games at U14, U17 and U21 level.
North U14 – 3 players selected
North U17 – 1 player selected
Scotland U17 (Irish tour) – 5 players selected
Scotland U21 – 2 players selected
North Senior – 1 player selected

Skye Camanachd had 3 players selected for the North U14 side – Iain Grant, Scott MacLeod and Martin Bruce who captained the team. First team player Shockie MacLennan was selected for the North U17 side and he was joined by Danny Morrison, Neil John Campbell, Andrew Banks and Jamie MacDonald for the Scotland U17 tour in Ireland earlier in the season. Steven Morrison and Ally MacLennan represented the Scotland U21 side that played against the Irish.
First team player Allan MacLeod represented the North senior side against the South. These selections demonstrate the young talent playing shinty in Skye at the moment. The selection of Allan MacLeod was a bonus, albeit a deserved one for his performances this season.

Continue loan payments against the Skye Camanachd Clubhouse building loan.
The loan has been reduced by £45,000.
Target met
Skye Camanachd used £40,000 of the incentive payment to reduce the loan account to a more manageable level. This has freed up some of our monthly interest payments to use elsewhere. We also made our annual payment of £5,000 against the loan.

Employ a qualified coach for youth shinty work.
Part time coach employed during 2008.

Willie Cowie from Skyesports has been employed to work at Primary School level and U14 development level. We continue to look for ways to fund this work as it’s becoming more difficult to access grant aid for such projects. However this work has been hugely beneficial and the club has invested in excess of £50,000 in the Shinty & Wellbeing Project for youth shinty over the last 3 years. We are looking at a joint project with Kinlochshiel and Lochcarron for U17 players in 2009. Willie’s work at Primary School level has seem Portree Primary School win the MacKay Cup and North Sixes in 2008.

The first team to reach a Cup semi final by 2009.
Skye Camanachd reached the 2008 Balliemore Cup in 2008
Target met
The first team reached the Balliemore Cup semi final on their way to winning the competition. A Camanachd Cup run looked possible but go no further than a 5-4 home defeat against National Premier League side Lovat.
Win an Intermediate Cup (Balliemore Cup) by 2012
Skye Camanachd won the 2008 Balliemore Cup in 2008
Target met
The major success from the 2008 season was winning the Balliemore Cup for the first team Skye lost the toss of the coin for the semi final and had to play Glenurquhart on their home pitch. However Skye beat the side who were to eventually with North Division 1. Skye followed this up with a win over Kilmallie in the final and must become more consistent and replicate these performances throughout their league campaign in 2009.
