Karen Casey Memorial Cup - Result. | |
09 November 2008 It was Kinlochshiel who won the west coast battle of the second teams, as they beat Lochcarron by 2 goals to 1 at Battery Park on Saturday 8 November 2008 to win the Karen Casey Memorial Cup. This was a very close and exciting encounter between two young sides. The experience in the Kinlochshiel side was provided by veterans Colin Fraser and Neillie “Ach” MacRae whilst Lochcarron had Shiel started the stronger and full forward Colin Fraser gave them the lead after only 5 minutes. Fraser collected the ball 15 yards from goal and his turn and shot into the top corner of the net left Lochcarron keeper Johnny Stewart helpless. Lochcarron equalised on the half hour mark. Kinlochshiel keeper Ian Cameron made a fantastic save with his hand and it was John Martin Philips who reacted first to fire the rebound into the net. The sides were level at the interval and it was Lochcarron who had all the pressure during the first 30 minutes of the second half. However they just couldn’t find a way past Cameron in the Shiel goal. Kinlochshiel took the lead against the run of play with Duncan “DA” MacRae firing though a ruck of players, low into the corner of the net, to score what proved to be the winner. Best for a Lochcarron side who gave their all were David MacCuish, Douglas MacKenzie, Daniel MacRae and a man of the match performance from Calum Finlayson. The Kinlochshiel heroes were mainly in defence with keeper Ian Cameron, full back Ross MacMillan and John Don MacKenzie standing up particularly well to Lochcarron’s second half onslaught. The match was expertly refereed by Donnie “Doonsie” MacRae and his performance contributed to what was a hugely entertaining match. |
