Skye Camanachd Look To 2009 California Trip. | |
02 November 2008 Skye Camanachd is looking for expressions of interests from club players and members who would wish to take part in a two-week cultural exchange trip to Northern California in early September 2009. The trip will be a celebration of shinty and Skye’s Gaelic culture centred on the Pleasanton Highland Games, one of the oldest and largest Highland Games in the World where the team will be involved in several showcase exhibition maps.
The club also intend to play the first proper international match in the United States and will have its members as guests of honour at at a gala concert.
Skye hope to emulate the success of their historic 1991 trip to Canada with Kingussie and continue to build links with the Northern California Camanachd Club (NCCC) who visited Skye as part of their last trip to Scotland in 2007 and have a long relationship with the American pioneers.
A lasting legacy for shinty in the United States is the ultimate aim of the trip and Michael Bentley, the chairman of the NCCC is looking forward to Skye’s visit “We look forward to seeing [Skye] next year.”
The club will also be seeking partners to assist and be attached with the project. Fundraising and budgeting will start when there is a clear idea of numbers. If you are a player or member of Skye Camanachd and wish to express your interest, please contact the organising committee via info@skyecamanachd.com or telephons Skye Camanachd Chairman Ross Cowie on 01478613467. |
