Skye Camanachd 3 Newtonmore 2 - Updated. | |
18 October 2008 The Skye Camanachd second team completed their season with a solid 3-2 home win over 3rd place Newtonmore on Saturday 18 October 2008. Skye actually played better in the first hitting against a wind and some really good movement up meant all 3 Skye goals were well constructed. Danny Morrison got Skye off to a great start when he opened the scoring after only 3 minutes. However Andy MacKintosh leveled the match after 17 minutes. Neil "Beans" MacVicar restored Skye's lead after 29 minutes but Newtonmore equalised again 10 minutes later through Glen Tonkin. Newtonmore were having some success against Skye down the wings but it was the Islanders who took the lead when U17 star Paul MacKinnon scored 2 minutes before the break. It was fitting that MacKinnon was to score what proved to be the winning goal as he gave a superb performance throughout. In fact all 3 Skye goals came from their U17 forwards. The early part of the second half was interrupted by a particularly heavy shower which blew the Newtonmore goal over! In the remainder of the second half, the Skye centre line were not as dominant and the defence had difficulty clearing their lines on occasion. However the team still managed create plenty of chances but the forwards were not as decisive as they were in the first half. Skye player / manager Davie MacVicar had a chance to put the match beyond doubt near the end but his shot went over. This was a good win for Skye and they will be pleassed to finish their season on a positive note. The match was refereed by Eoghan Stewart after original referee Donald MacRae had to call off.
