Shinty Can Learn From Hurling Promotion Says Captain Ross. | |
10 October 2008 Scotland captain Kenny Ross feels that shinty can learn from hurling in terms of promoting our sport. Speaking in an interesting interview in this week's Oban Times, Ross said "Croke Park, with it's visitor centre and sports' museum is a magnificent setting and one that all shinty players should visit." Lochcarron stalwart Ross, who was man of the match in the 2002 clash in Dublin, is clearly proud to be selected for his country. "Just being able to represent your country means everything to me." Ross regularly watches hurling on Setanta and via the internet and would love to see shinty promoted in the same fashion. "When you see what the Irish have achieved through their cultural sports, it makes you realise the potential of shinty in Scotland as a whole - and how far we have to go to be on par with the Irish." The 37 year olds says "the GAA has always been very supportive of the international series and we've seen top hurlers participating over the years such as DJ Carey, Henry Sheflin, Davy Fitzgerald, and Martin Comerford." Kenny's Lochcarron team-mate Alan MacKenzie will fly back from a holiday in Lanzarote to play in the match at Kilkenny on 18 October 2008.
