07 October 2008 Archie MacLean, Chief Executive of CnaG has said that he is looking forward to seeing much more shinty on the new Gaelic television channel BBC ALBA. Whilst announcing that Cnag will once again be supporting the efforts of the Scottish shinty team in its international series of matches with Ireland MacLean is quoted on www.shinty.com as saying "It is very important to CnaG to be involved with sport in its Gaelic dimension and we look forward to seeing much more of shinty on the new Gaelic television channel BBC ALBA. It is very fitting that we maintain our link with shinty’s Governing Body because of its significant role in the community and also Comunn Luthchleas Gael (GAA) in Ireland". The Scottish men’s senior team and the women team meet Ireland in Kilkenny on Saturday October 18 2008 and the under 21s meet in Durrow, Co Laois on the same day. Cnag will be presenting the sàr-chluicheadair medals which will be presented to the best players in each game. The solid silver medals have been presented annually by CnaG since 1992. Archie also sent his best wished to the Gaelic-speaking team from throughout the Gàidhealtachd and beyond who have been chosen to represent Scotland in the second annual Alba v Eireann Gaelic compromise rules international, to be played in Inverin, County Galway, this week. The game will be played in Ireland as part of Iomain Cholmcille 2008 which runs from the 10th to the 13th of October 2008 and is supported by Colmcille (the Columba Initiative). He said: “I know that the Scottish Gaelic team was disappointed not to have won on their first meeting in Oban last year, but hopefully they too will be in a position to return with silverware.” |
