27 September 2008 All the latest from Saturday 27 September 2008. Glenurquhart are Marine Harvest North Division 1 champions after they beat nearest challengers Kilmallie 1 - 0 at Drum na Drochit. The Glen had keeper Stuart Mackintosh to thank that the first half remained goalless. It was youngster Neale Reid who was the Glen hero when he pounced on a poor clearance to fire in a 52 minute strike which clinched the title and sent his team into next season’s Marine Harvest Premier League. Also in Marine Harvest North Division 1, Beauly confirmed their place in the league with a 3 – 1 win at Lochcarron. Sean Stewart opened the scoring for the visitors after 20 minutes and David MacLean got a vital second, a minute before the break. Barrie MacDonald made it three after 67 minutes before Andrew MacKenzie scored a consolation for Lochcarron 10 minutes from the end. Beauly finish their league campaign in 6th place, two points ahead of bottom club Caberfeidh with Inverness in 7th place. Lochside Rovers won the Oban battle, winning the Bullough Cup with a 4 – 1 win over local rivals Oban Celtic. Alan Duffy gave Celtic a 3 minute lead but Lorne Dickie leveled the final ten minutes later. David MacCuish put Rovers ahead after 51 minutes and Angus Campbell made in three 10 minutes later. Dickie got his second and Rovers fourth on 77 minutes to seal Rovers cup win. In the Marine Harvest Premier League, champions Kingussie beat Kyles Athletic 4 – 2 to make it 17 straight wins in the league. Paul Gow scored twice in the first 5 minutes to give the home team a great start. Fraser Inglis made it three after 54 minutes and Ronald Ross, making a surprise return after injury, made it four on the hour mark. Ross came on at half time to replace Barry Dallas who suffered a suspected broken cheek bone just before the break. Kyles made the result more respectable with late strikes from Tom Whyte and Donald Irvine. Only The match between Oban Camanachd secured a vital 2 -1 home win over Inveraray in their last league game of the season. Scott MacMillan was the Oban hero, scoring both goals, whilst David Robertson replied for Inveraray. This win means Oban leapfrog Inveraray into fifth place – although Inveraray still have 5 games to play - and with 14 points, Oban are safe. However all eyes in the Premier League were on the Isle of Bute where the home team earned a priceless point with a 3 – 3 draw with Newtonmore. David Cheyne opened the scoring for the visitors after 10 minutes and Evan Menzies doubled their lead 10 minutes later. Ally Carmichael pulled a goal back for Bute 2 minutes later but another Menzies strike 2 minutes from the break restored More’s two goal lead and made matters look bleak for Bute at the interval. However the islanders rallied and a Hector Whitelaw penalty in 75 minutes reduced the deficit. Ian MacDonald leveled the match 5 minutes later and that was how the match ended. However it still may not be enough as The surprise result in Marine Harvest North Division 2 was second bottom Caberfeidh’s home 3 - 3 draw with second top Kilmallie. Kirk Taylor gave Cabers a 16 minute lead but Mark Graham equalised after 51 minutes. A Malcolm Morrison own goal 2 minutes later gave the away side the lead but Garry MacLennan leveled after 73 minutes. Mark Graham got his second and Kilmallie’s third 10 minutes from the end but Martin MacDonald earned Cabers a point 5 minutes from the end. Newtonmore earned a 3 - 1 over Kinlochshiel with Ross Aitken amongst their scorers. David Falconer replied for Shiel but it wasn’t enough and More remain above Shiel in the league. In Marine Harvest North Division 3, fifth placed Lochcarron had a great 8 – 0 win over bottom club Kincraig. Ian Cameron scored four and Sean MacCuish got a double. Finlay Stark and Kieron Murray were Lochcarron’s other scorers. Lochbroom’s home match with Glenurquhart wasn’t played with the points going to the visitors. Beauly completed their league programme, and go top of Marine Harvest North Division 3, with a great 6 – 0 away win at Cannich against Strathglass. Alan Bruce helped himself to a hat-trick with Robbie Tuach and a Jack MacDonald double completed the scoring. However Glenurquhart are only two points behind with four games still to play. In Marine Harvest South Division 1, Ballachulish had a 3 – 1 home win over Strachur. Donald MacDonald actually gave the visitors the lead after 51 minutes but three goals in the last 10 minutes from David Grant, Grant Simmers, and Garry Young gave the home side their win. Kilmory lost 2 – 1 at home to Glasgow Mid Argyll. Alastair Cunningham scored for the Kilmory but Garry Luke and Donald Colville won it for the visitors. In Marine Harvest South Division 2, Kyles Athletic beat Taynuilt 5 – 2. A Ewan MacDonald hat-trick and a Dan MacRae double weighed in with the home sides goals whilst a late D Campbell double replied for the visitors. |
