Portree Primary School beat Rockfield 5-0 to win the Milngavie Bearsden shinty tournament.
This continues a fine record held by Portree Primary in this competition. Portree sent two teams to the competition with the Primary 5s and under only losing out in their final after a penalty shoot out. They drew 1-1 with St Columba from Oban before losing 3-2 in a penalty shoot out.
The Primary 7 and under side opended with a fine 4-0 win over the Glasgow Gaelic School. They followed this up with a battling performance against a physical Rockfield, winning by a single goal. Angie Grant was prolific in the opening two games with 4 goals and Willie Cowie added the other. In their remaining section game, Portree beat Fife 5-0.
Portree saw off hosts Milngavie 4-0 in the semi final and faced Rockfield from Oban again in the final.
This time Portree ran out convincing winners by five goals to nil in the final. Scorers were Angie Grant (2), Willie Cowie (2) and Andrew Grant.
Portree scored a total of 19 goals in the competition and conceded none and captain Andrew Grant was delighted to be presented with the trophy.
Coaches Willie Cowie and David Pringle will be pleased that Portree Primary have continued their period of dominence in this tournament as the school also won it in 2004 and 2005.
The long journey home will seem all the shorter following the team's success.
This is a realy well run event and a must in the Portree Primary School diary.
