Gilleasbuig MacDonald's return from "Down Under" earlier this season gave Skye Camanachd's season a welcome boost.
Coincidently, Gilleasbuig’s first game back was in the emphatic 6-1 victory over Saturday’s Balliemore Cup Final opponents Kilmallie at Canals Park.
His performances at full centre have added drive and determination to the Skye centre line and he deservedly took over as Club captain when the position became vacant.
On Saturday he has the chance to be the first Skye Camanachd captain to touch silverware in one of the cup competitions since 1990 when another dynamic full centre, Caley MacLean, held aloft the Camanachd Cup. Skye have of course since won the North Division 1 Championship.
MacDonald came on as a substitute in the Balliemore Cup Final 2003 final and scored the goal which took the match into extra time. His contribution on Saturday will be equally important.
The likeable MacDonald will not have his head turned by the personal glory of receiving the winning captain’s silver mounted captain but will play - as he has done all season – for the good of the team.
