On paper, Skye Camanachd's visit to Canal Park to face Kilmallie - who a year ago were in the Premier League - looked like one of the season's most difficult tasks. And that's why team manager Alasdair Morrison was jubilent when he spoke to Cuillin FM following his side's 6-1 win.
Alan Palmer returned from illness to hit a great hat-trick with further goals from Somhairle MacDonald, Ally MacLennan and Kenny Campbell.
Alan Palmer replaced the injured Aonghas MacDonald at full forward and he didn't disappoint. He gave Skye a great start when he scored the after only 5 minutes and Somhairle MacDonald made the half time score 2-0 when he scored 7 minutes before the break.
Ross Lavin pulled a goal back for Kilmallie 5 minutes after the break but Alan Palmer restored Skye's 2 goal advantage after 63 minutes. Ally MacLennan hit a great shot from fully 30 yards to make it 4-1 only 3 minutes later. Substitute Kenny Campbell made it 5-1 in 83 minutes and Alan Palmer completed his hat-trick 2 minutes from the end when he took a touch to beat his marker and sent a waist high rocket shot into the net.
It wasn't all one way traffic though and Ross Graham in goal was called upon to make at least 3 great saves. Steven Morrison was outstanding again at full back as he has been throughout the season. Dougie Rankin at half back also excelled and the centre line of Shockie MacLennan, Gibbs MacDonald and Jamie MacDonald (and substitute Ian Nicolson when he came on) remained strong throughout.
Skye lost John Moir through injury after just 15 minutes and they lost Somhairle MacDonald with a hamstring injury in the second half but he will be unavailable for the next few weeks because of holiday commitments anyway.
This morale boosting win takes Skye to 4th place equal with Glenurquhart although the Glen have 3 games in hand.
Rumour has it that Aonghas MacDonald phoned his dad DR after the game to relay the result. "The game finished 6-1" said Aonghas. "Oh" said DR rather disappointedly, "who scored the Skye goal?" We know what he meant.
